Second Chance To Love

”Love doesn’t always last. Sometimes if we are lucky enough, it can be found again, and it remains forever.”

Showbiz couples have their ups and downs in terms of love matters. Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velaquez tied the knot last year. It was Ogie’s second marriage, but it was Regine’s first. How many showbiz couples were of the same situation, to have a second chance to love and be married again? It has happened to Sharon Cuneta, Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor and Kris Aquino, who have lost their love only to regain their hearts blissfully.

Weddings make me cry because of their promise and vow to one another to be together for better or for worst, for richer or poorer. But different situations do happen and that vow may remain as words eventually losing its very essence. The once blissful relationship may come to an end and one might not even know the true reasons why.

I believe a lost love is not the end. There will always be a second chance to love and to be cared for.

For whatever reason you have lost your love, think of others who have had their second chance to love. Is it lovelier the second time around? It must be, because as one goes through a relationship you are more mature, you can handle better one’s emotion, and most especially you know what’s best and what you like, you are sure of the traits you like, and can distinguish or predict the other’s behavior.

Here’s a very apt poem ….

A Second Chance To Love Again

by MaryGrace Patterson

Love doesn’t always last. Sometimes if we are lucky enough, it can be found again, and it remains forever (A repost with a title change)

Most are fortunate to have one true love in their lives.

For others it comes again, like a gentle breeze, caressing the tendrils of life.

Love stirs the soul, opening it to the beauty of special moments and feelings sublime.

The heart is enriched , made new, as love’s rapture encases it, holding tight, to be etched forever in tabloids of time ……..

Last week…..

I was sick last Monday, decided to stay home and have my much needed bedrest. Tuned in to the news which were mostly about the Senate hearing on corruption in the armed forces. It was sad hearing the generals as they try to evade answering most of the questions. Most of them were graduates of the premier military school in the country, where courage ,integrity and loyalty were ingrained in them.

Tuesday , back to school and my usual routine, still not feeling well. I craved for pastillas de leche from Goldilocks, only to find out that its available only on Fridays. When I was little, lola would always bring me the best pastillas from San Miguel Bulacan.

Wednesday, I had my hospital duty at Caloocan Medical Center with my nursing students. It was their last duty week, and we had discussion on the knowledge, skills and the attitude they have learned and later apply to their forthcoming dealings with their clients. In the afternoon, my daughter and I went to Divisoria to claim her gown for their JS Prom this coming week.

Thursday was duty Day again at the hospital.Had my clinic in the afternoon and attended to clients with different skin conditions. I was able to buy pastillas from Red Ribbon. I ask Nanay to cook homemade sardinas, an old kapampangan recipe from  my Dad.

Friday was another tiring lecture day for me in school. I easily get tired these days. Some of my co-workers experienced the same body aches I had, some were sick with fever. It must have been the erratic weather changes.

My weekend was spent with my youngest daughter who is about to graduate this March from high school. It was the St Mary’s family day. The last family day I have attended for my children. By next  school year, all will be in college. Another grand activity, a birthday party in the evening of a friend from high school. We had fun, food ,booze and bonding to the highest level. A great way to cap the weekend.

My Life as a Teacher Part II

by Anna Katharina on February 5, 2011

in Journal,Nurse Quad,School

Twice a week I go out of the classroom to be with my students in their Related Learning Experience (RLE). Their RLE is conducted in a health care facility such as a hospital or a health center. Level II students are required to spent at least 306 hours in a semester to complete their RLE. Here, my students act like real nurses to hone their skills, apply their knowledge learned inside the classroom and  practice the right attitude of being a nurse.

The basic skill that I teach them is to practice how to communicate with clients and experience how to establish a constructive nurse-client relationship. Armed with the knowledge of communication techniques, they have to collect data from clients as a primary step in the nursing process. The approach is always to utilize the nursing process in caring for clients across the lifespan.

Simple skills such as proper identification of clients, vital signs, documentation, taking the nursing health history with emphasis on the Gordon’s Health Patterns, performing physical assessment are more than enough to get them busy.

One hour is also spent in the discussion of the overall experience of the day, their insights and reflection on the nursing interventions they have performed. The final documentation of their activity is then written as their nursing care plan.

My Life as a Teacher (Part 1)

by Anna Katharina on January 9, 2011

in Journal,School

It’s been 5 years of teaching nursing students in 2 universities. I have almost taught most of the nursing subjects, from the basic like Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology to the major subjects of Medical Surgical and Maternal and Child Health Nursing.

My students were from the age range 17 to 50 years old, for the reason that some of them took up nursing as a second bachelor’s degree. Their personalities, learning styles and attitude were varied. My jokes were not funny to some but others can relate as I tell stories about life, mostly from my own experiences.

The day to day rigors of teaching 8 hours a day was fun, tiring and rewarding. My weekends were spent doing handouts, outlines, research and examinations. I am not a techie inside the classroom. I still use the teaching strategies of reading, writing and reciting. No LCDs , no PowerPoint presentations, nor overhead projectors, just handouts on the topic for discussion which were given days ahead of the discussion.  I did a survey on their preferred teaching strategies and handouts were first followed by lecture discussion as their choice.

More to come in my next blog posts …
