THE WORLD AROUND ME NOW A BLOG!

Hi! I’m Anna Katharina, a Filipina doctor blogger from Manila. Welcome to my hectic lifestyle. Join me as I try to cope with work, daily commitments, hobbies and quality time with my family. University professor from 7 to 4, doctor to my patients from 6 to 8 and solo parent for the rest of my waking hours. This is my new found activity to keep me on my toes: enjoying being a blogger. I know it is never too late to learn new things as I have done in the past.

I used to work for the government for 16 years, retired, then had a change of heart and went into teaching college students . Aside from practicing my career as a physician I studied to become a registered nurse and had my Masters of Public health. With my busy schedule . I am also a solo parent for the last 10 years. I am what I am now and happy blogging all the cobwebs in my life.

I got three kids all bloggers and grown up, keeping me sane all the time, reminding they are here for me with what I do. They are the ones who encouraged me to blog and build this site.

Every moment counts! Everyday that I do go through these moments that mean the most, those special moments I will blog about.

Anna Katharina July 1, 2010 at 11:12 pm

@melanie; Assessment is first. Get the nursing health history, include the OB history, then the lab exams available. Use Gordon’s health patterns , then prioritize the nursing problems. Read Pilitterri book for guidance about premature labor. Go to your library and look for nursing care plans book. use the samples as patterns in doing your NCP.Good luck.

hi!
i am a nurse educator , i am working here in saudi, i happen to scan your website and i am so amze to see thinhg sthat you have sahred to our nurses… medyo may similarity lang nman tayo our strong commitment to our profession as an educator.. i used what you have shared her as my references for my staff since i am reinforcing knwoledge to our staff though they are already professional but yet medyo delikado sa practice dahil very limited anfg knowledge , the skills cannot satnd dwithoput the knowledge hind safe ang pasyente at hind quality care ang klabasanso i decide to let them do a case presentation of their patient to undersatnd the disease proces an dable to appreciate and find ways to improve their care.. thanks a lot for this information .. help me in my search for any good inputs for our nurses especially here in KSA where culture ,& traditon & religion will sometimes compromise the care and make our nurses be more reluctant to apply what is essential & ideal. .. godbless

Anna Katharina August 22, 2010 at 10:38 am

@Paulet: Thank you so much for your kind words. I’ll try my best to blog as much as possible about how nursing is being taught here in our country. Maybe you can suggest topics for me to write about. For now, we are implementing the new nursing curriculum. Maybe you might have read about it here in my other postings. transcultural nursing is a very interesting topic, you may want to share them with my readers. God bless you !

Leigh September 7, 2010 at 2:10 pm

hello dr. Anna. I belive my sister and my mother got their dermatology treatment at your Novaliches branch clinic. They were on holidays from Seattle…they had their facial warts cauterize (I think). My mom just had her 82nd birthday and everyone was amazed at how clear and luminous her skin was. She brought a lot of her skin supplies back from your clinic. I had my facial warts removed 18 years ago! but the warts are all over my face again…I’m not sure what the remedy is here in canada. I wish I could travel back to Manila to have what you have done to my mother’s and sister’s facial skin because it is marvelous! All the best to you and your family. You are really good at what you do.
God Bless You..

Anna Katharina September 7, 2010 at 10:58 pm

@ Leigh: Hello, thank you for your kind words. I will send your greetings to the doctor assigned at Novaliches branch. You are most welcome to visit the clinic.

Raphael Fernandez December 25, 2010 at 12:54 am

Hi, Dr. Anna! Like you, I’m a doctor of medicine, currently working as a government physician in the Mactan Airport. Recently, I just learned that you’re also doing some podcasting, I’ll try to listen to one of your shows one of these days. I also transcribe for a US-based podcaster called Nursing Notes Live. The host, Jamie Davis, is in the EMS field but a nurse as well. He interviews US nurses for his show. Maybe I can ask you some questions (and comment as well) as I sometimes also get female-related questions and usually I have to refer them to some of my peers here. Maybe you can answer them in your show as part of the learning experience with your audience. Thank you.

Anna Katharina December 28, 2010 at 3:49 pm

@Dr R Fernandez: Just send the questions and I’ll find time to answer their queries. God bless

Hi Doc. I am from Mindanao. I found a Dermcare clinic branch in Cagayan de Oro City. I plan to avail your underarm whitening service. Since wala kayo dito sa Mindanao, is it still safe kahit walang supervision nyo? Kahit hindi niyo pa ako naiconsult and hindi niyo pa nakikita skin ko? Thank u Doc.

Anna Katharina May 28, 2011 at 2:19 pm

Hello.
I’m just so impressed with your achievements. I am a registered nurse.Though I have been detached from nursing for a long time, I have pursued my MA and I am about to work on my thesis on research utilization. In this light, I would like to ask your assistance about Nursing Research History in our country. I could not find one in the internet.

Thank you.

Good afternoon po Dra Anna! For sometime i have been reading all the articles you’d been writing and they are all enlightening and informative. In connection with the ENC, may i ask your permission to use the information and flyer of ENC for my public lecture. Thank you po and hoping for your favorable response. Have a nice day and be safe during this stormy day.

@carolina: yes you can use the ENC info, the links are from DOH website. Thank you for your kind words.

allan biwit March 5, 2012 at 8:07 pm

good evening Dra Anna, I am searching the net for the guidelines for case presentation and I was redirected here at your site. Students were asking me that if a patient now has multiple medical diagnosis like AGE;PCAP-C;moderate dehydration and malnourishment, and the students were to develop a case presentation to this client, will they now present all these cases as one or will they choose a specific case from all of the diagnosed case and present said specific case lang po?Thank you po and hope you can help me address this concern of the students po.

Anna Katharina March 7, 2012 at 4:04 pm

@alan biwit: A client may have lots of medical diagnosis, however in nursing we always prioritize problems presented by the client based on the concept of ABC, Maslows and safety. You always based everything on your assessment. Where you able to cluster your data based on Gordons? What about your subjective and objective data? After data collection then you prioritize your client’s problem then do the next step which is making your nursing diagnosis.

It will be better if you read nursing care plans book to guide you in your case presentation. Good luck!

hi doc. im using dermcare’s 4n1 exfoliant cream for a week now, noticed that my skin gets darker in shade and too oily especially on the t zone. got shinier skin though as if the skin is stretched, experienced too little peeling, theres some part that is itchy is this a usual reaction? just wondring coz expecting lighter shade after.
