Filipina International Women’s Day
- Of the total estimated 96 Million Filipino population , *49.64 percent were Filipina (female Filipino).
- Filipina (Females) outnumbered males in voting population : females (50.11 percent) outpacing slightly the males with 49.89 percent.
- More than half of the Filipina (female population) belonged to the reproductive age group :women in childbearing ages (15-49 years) was recorded at 51.04 percent. in the 15 to 19 years age group 10.53 percent.
- Filipina (Females) dominated higher levels of education : Among academic degree holders, there were more females (57.89 percent) than males (42.11 percent). The same is true for post baccalaureate courses, the proportion was higher for females (58.27 percent) than for males (41.73 percent).
- Filipina legislators and senior officials: Four out of 24 Senators are women and, 54 of the 239 members of the House of Representatives. Five of 15 Supreme Court Justices are women. Filipina assume the Philippine top leadership to a woman twice within 15 years.
Filipina deserves to celebrate the International Women’s Day. Withstanding the different roles, she has to play to her family, community and the global world, makes her a hero in her own right. Her key responsibility of taking care of her children attending to their needs at the same time having a career of her own makes her even more a superwoman!
